My Tech Stack: tools that do the same job
The hub now works out what each tool does, not just which category it sits in, and shows you where two of them overlap: a website platform that also sends newsletters next to your email tool, two raters, a phone system and a meetings app that both do video. Each overlap says what you would save and what you would lose.
Overlap is how agencies overpay without noticing: staff change, vendors add features, and three subscriptions end up doing one job. Category alone cannot see it because the overlapping tools sit on different shelves. Every product in the catalog now carries a list of the jobs it does, and every tool in your inventory inherits that list from the catalog entry it is linked to, from its name when we recognise it, or from its category as a last resort.
- A new Tools that do the same job card on the My Tech Stack overview. Each group names the shared job, lists the tools with what each costs, says what is unique to each one, and puts a conservative number on it: the cost of the cheapest tool in the group.
- The same groups appear in What to do next and on the printed report, ranked with the other findings.
- A tool entered twice is flagged as a duplicate entry rather than an overlap, so the totals stay honest.
- Open any tool on the inventory page and the drawer shows what it does and where we learned that, so you can correct it by linking the right catalog entry.
- Nothing here recommends dropping anything. It is the list to take into each renewal conversation.
